Description: deciduous, herbaceous groundcover (4-6″) that slowly spreads by stolons to form a lush carpet in the woodland garden. Bunchberry has a whorl of broad leaves that turn red in autumn. In summer it has white flowers (actually 4 large bracts subtending a bunch of tiny greenish flowers) followed by edible (but tasteless) red fruit. Shade, regular water, humus-rich soil.
